Every city offers unique and attractive places and sites which you must visit. Varna is a marine town with centuries of history, so the attractions here are related to the sea and the bygone eras.

 

Dolphinarium

Varna Dolphinarium is situated amidst the greenery of the Seaside. It’s a home to 5 dolphins – 3 females and 2 males. Kimbo, Dolly and Mika come from the faraway coasts of Guatemala and Cuba, and Joanna and Bimbo are born here.

The Dolphinarium was inaugurated in 1984 and has a capacity of 1200 seats and a cafeteria with a glass wall viewing the aquarium.

Nowadays more and more people have the pleasure of swimming with the dolphins. Why don’t you try it?

 

Aquarium

The Varna Aquarium is a public aquarium and besides being an attraction it is also a base of the Institute of Fish Resources from the Agricultural Academy. It’s located in the Sea Garden, near the Naval Museum and the Fesitval and Congress Centre.

The aquarium’s exhibition focuses on the Black Sea‘s flora and fauna which includes over 140 fish species, but also features freshwater fish, Mediterranean fish, exotic species from faraway areas of the World Ocean, mussels and algae.

 

Karting

Varna Karting Track is the largest track in Bulgaria. It offers very good karting conditions, high quality and fast karts and guaranteed fun!

 

Naval Museum

The Naval Museum in Varna is a branch of the National Museum of Military History. It is among the 100 tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union.

In its expositions the museum presents maritime Bulgaria in its wholeness. The most important moments and processes of the naval activities of the Bulgarians, the construction of the maritime fleet, the participation of our seamen in the wars. The museum visitors can see original ancient anchors and shop remnants, found on the bottom of the Black Sea; ship head decorations; uniforms of seamen and officers. Desk models show the diversity of the ship collection of the naval and the commercial fleet in various periods. Maritime flags, torpedoes, optical devices of lighthouses from the Bulgarian shores, medals, etc. are presented. Apparatuses and instruments show the complexity of the specifics of naval professions such as navigation and shipbuilding.

In an open-air exposition at the museum the visitors can see the museum ship “Drazki”; a torpedo cutter 123-K; a mine-sweeping cutter constructed during the Second World War according to a Bulgarian project; the sailing yacht “Kor Karoli” by which in 1976-77 captain Georgi Georgiev performed the first individual Bulgarian sailing around the world.

 

Varna Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Varna was established in 1887 by the brothers Karel and Herman Skorpil. The most significant exponents in the museum are from the Varna Eneolith necropolis which was found during accidental construction works in the west industrial zone of Varna in 1972. The golden objects alone, found in the examined tombs, are more than 3 000, and have a total weight of more than 6 kilograms, and their diversity is significant – more than 38 different types.

The building in which it is housed was constructed in 1892 – 1898 for a school – a Girls High School. It was built in a late baroque style with basement premises and two floors. It has an almost square shape and a spacious internal yard. The exposition area of the museum is 2 150 square meters. There are also funds, a library and a children education museum.

 

In Varna you can also see the Puppet Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of National Revival, the Park-Museum “Vladislav Varnenchik” and many galleries and exhibitions.
